From Khoi Vinh, design director for the New York Times. I think you’ll agree.

Thanks for the link man, and yes I definitely couldn’t agree more.

This film is years ahead of its time, a completely unique cinematic vision that is keeping the public guessing but will hopefully finally connect with them in the near future.  The story really is quite simple; no super complex layers in characters and really there isn’t much to think about during this movie.  But during the movie, you can’t help but get swept away in emotion by the simplistic joys of family, good triumphing over evil, and to finally feel like a kid again at the movies.

It’s unfortunate that they chose a release date to compete against Iron Man; had they gone sooner the box office numbers might be a different story.  I also used to agree on the critics’ every word about new movies coming out, and so, reading the reviews about this movie I was SO close to seeing Iron Man.  I changed my mind at the last second, and thank god, because I’ve never had more fun or felt more alive at the movies than seeing Speed Racer.  I learned my lesson to never again be a sheep to their words.  Somehow, fucking TRANSFORMERS scored higher in their minds.  Something is wrong there.

If you still haven’t seen it, please please PLEASE, get out to an IMAX NOW.

This trailer does the best justice towards the movie’s visuals, but the movie still kicks so much ass on its own:
