so last night while i was working with this goddamned piece of shit windows server i was talking with chick and realized something...one of the things that has ruined the internet is social networking. how? well let me explain.
back in the day of 2000 when i arrived in boston on a really delayed flight, i joined the dot com army and signed up for 80 hour weeks, cool chairs and ridiculous holiday bonuses along with an unlimited supply of redbull. but no matter how much life sucked, i always had the bt-network board to keep me company with the insane posts and the drama that made an episode of one life to live look like a walk in the park. but from there i made a bunch of friends, hell in 2001 a group of us tore up los angeles like it was our playground (except for shane passing out with a muffin on his head)...either way it was fun, still some of the fondest memories i have to this day.
then came 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 etc etc. The community was lively, i was the token dickhead/masshole and things were going. I’d venture to say around what… 2004...social networking took off. Social networking has made things less personal as far as interaction but more personal as far as information shared / pictures / inside fart jokes with friends...etc etc.
Now I know I am not a saint by any means when it comes to reaching out and touching someone. I have had my share of my head up the butt as far as social interaction. Maybe it’s because I am going to be 30, moved to New York City and spend most of my time outside of my house going around town doing fun things...maybe its because of my work ethic/crazy i allow myself to get wrapped up in with each job I have. I also have a girlfriend..the one you’d want to take to see moms because friday nights don’t involve getting fubared and staying up until sunday morning. Either way, to the people who know me..you all have a special place in my heart and I still have the memories and smile (even though I have probably partied enough for a small country).
Either way, my sure fire websites in 2001 included the bt-network, boston.com, maybe a music site or two, oh and pimp wars when we used to gang up on people..now its the typical “insert social networking site”, gothamist, nytimes, bbc etc etc.
so after I came to the decision, i decided to axe my facebook. i am not going to subscribe to this social networking crap anymore, im done.
i don’t know if any of what i wrote above makes any sense, but all i feel is that things keep getting less personal..which i somewhat miss. it isn’t me bitching or complaining by any means...just an observation.
to all my friends, even to those i haven’t had the chance to meet...my best wishes to you all. i hope that this post finds you well.
