As you can tell, we’ve gone through a few changes around these parts. This will outline some of them for our long-term members, as well as establish some ground rules for the new folks who don’t know better.
The Board
The most obvious is the board itself. For the last seven years, BT Network’s message board has been run off ezBoard via member contributions every 3 to 6 months. In peak traffic times back in 2003 during the release of Emotional Technology, this became quite expensive—not to mention the inherent unreliability of ezBoard and lack of options. The board is now completely running on BT Network itself. Your login names will also serve you across the rest of the site’s contents, which will prove useful with some of the new features we plan on adding here. Stay tuned for that. If you ever get the urge to revisit the history of the old board, it will remain preserved, and accessible from a link at the bottom of every page here.
The Community
BT Network is borne by the members who support it, and would not exist otherwise. Some people have been here for well over a decade. They do because the discourse is insightful, intelligent, respectful and informative. We do not come here to discuss the various colors of BT’s underwear or how many hair products he uses (Danny tried counting the bottles one day, and still couldn’t keep track).
That said, free expression has played an equal part in the success here. We’ve supported BT’s work when every label in the industry told him it wouldn’t be possible, but also dissented from his lesser efforts. (Next time it would probably be better if they gave him Bowie’s vocals more than 24 hours before the due date.)
Freedom to disagree is not to be underestimated, and you’ll see plenty of it here. Outside the usual requests of not posting anything that the MPAA and RIAA might take offense to (There’s enough residual evidence on my hard drive as it is), opinions in all forms are welcomed with open arms. Uninformed ones are subject to thorough deconstruction and occasional embarrassment. Just like in real life.
We’ll be back in shape before you know it, and with that will come more fun for everyone. But in the meantime, it’s good to see you guys back.
