Definitley: She’s Makin Me Lose it

Possibly: Heres my Hello maybe How Many Words

Freaking fantastic album, very 80s/70s/Electronic LOVE IT.
Its got a Zapp and Rogers Talkbox esque vocoded line which made my head explode.

Album is 5/5 stars.

Did anybody catch the article in CNN yesterday about this album?  No mention of BT at all, and it was said about three or four times that the more dance and hip-hop elements were left out.  But of course, Blake said he made the exact album he wanted to make, but he is planning a remix album to include the stuff that he wanted in the album that didn’t make the cut.  Seems like he contradicted himself.

Well I think he made the most out of what he was allowed to do.  For a first time cd on a major label from the american idol camp on Clive Davis’s label I think the cd is very adventurous.  However, the album is filled with more “Somnambulist” type songs than of say Flaming June or Never Gonna Come back down.  You can hear his influences, I think he and BT worked on several songs (others more dancy) and those were left out because of well the idea that “you cant make a dance record on a major label” type thought process.

I really like the album from track 4 to the end
First 3 songs are just ok, i enjoy them but the good shit starts happening from track 4 to the end.

Not to rain on the parade, but this album is awful. I’d spend a half hour explaining why, but Andrew Matson of the Seattle Times already did the necessary heavy lifting. I couldn’t agree more:

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/musicnightlife/2004049198_blakelewis03.html

Lewis’ love of hip-hop, drum and bass and trance music appears on “ADD” like faint syrup in a giant Italian soda.

I first wrote Andrew to applaud his frank and accurate critique:

I followed this album’s process from the very beginning from BT’s camp, and was stoked to think we might actually get a record that broke the monotony. Instead we get a dodgy copout of manufactured cheese from the hit factory, properly pasteurized and sliced neatly into squares for easy digestion by tweens. It’s another modern Greek Tragedy, made worse by the fact that unlike Clive Davis’ booming late 90s acts, this one actually had some talent. What a fucking waste.

Blake made the record the big heads wanted him to make. This was evident early on when he produced four tracks with BT and management only allowed one to make the cut. What Blake REALLY needs to do is go full-tilt and produce a pure electronic album with all the freestyle he wants, sell enough copies to go Gold, and say “That was fucking fun. Let’s do it again sometime.” We won’t really see the rest of the iceberg until he does that.

He replied back with the following:

i’m getting blown up by hordes of irate 12 year old girls.

It’d be hilarious if it weren’t so indicative of who Blake’s target audience really is.

Bummer its receiving tough reviews. But the 1st is always the one to get capsized.
Alot of reviewers are so critical, that they dont enjoy music, but feel bitter.
Whatever Blake wanted to make, maybe we’ll see it progress later on.

Music isn’t sure what it wants to be anymore.

wow, I somehow missed this thread. I guess I would fall in between Casey and Rageous on this one. Guess that means I have to listen.
And not that anyone cares, but I think most of the Idol people put out a crap first album, then they realize they can do so much more and a better one comes. Unless you’re Chris Daughtry and you can do whatever you want (like collaborate with Slash).

yes, I did leave that part out. And looking back I must have been in a positive mood this morning… It should have read something like, then they realize a few people can do a few more things and then sometimes a better one comes.

gahhh
