I am speechless.  I was secretly hoping she would come out on stage and make statement and really blow everyone away and re-invent her career.  This is one of those moments in time where you can identify and pinpoint the fall of someones career.  You can almost hear it fall to pieces and hit the floor.  I hope that she gets help soon and really sits down and looks at her career (not under the influence of anything) and reallly see that she needs help.  At anyrate… what are your thoughts?

Cheers!

My thoughts on Britney are exactly what Sarah said about her after she performed.  For those who would rather not watch the gaudy spectacle that is the VMA’s: “That’s what’s so great about her, just look...She’s 25 and she’s already done everything she’s going to do.” So true.  She wanted to have Madonna’s career SOOO bad and yet Madonna can be a slut and make it look vaguely acceptable, even fun.  But with Britney, as with this performance, it’s more of the same slut action, the one kids in middle school jerked it to before they found daddy’s porn.

Just remember, it’s okay for girls to set examples to girls that it’s okay and good to give your sex away, to many men, on many days.

Speaking of jizzasturbation, it’s a fairly good adjective for the VMA’s in general, the poorly disguised mutual pop star cock strokage, reminding those busy outside the coke circle, those paying for the meals of bohemians each 15 dollar ticket and each subsequent fantastic show at a time that THESE were the monster singles they missed, the big deals, the shit dropping in the clubs they should’ve been in.  Why oh WHY didn’t I get to hear “Umbrella” a bazillion times?  Why weren’t beerbellied frat kids doing shots of Jose out of my vagina at 7am?

But I digress. Concern yourself with what side of the fence your on, and there are many sides.  There’s the aformentioned example.  There’s JT and Timbaland hanging around Tim’s manse in beach towels listening to classic rock and blazing kush until the day before they go golfing, the day before they meditate, before painting the toenails on Rihanna’s feet before heading off to the spa, before ignoring that below them: the other sides of the fence.  The sides of the fence that pay for theirs.  There’s the club promoter and his deific respect for pop’s pulling power.  He loves THAT track.  There’s the bodyguard having the time of his life, telling that same joke about the barely finished GED, waving around a sparkly dense carbon formation that puts ‘the cut’ on his punching hand.  He goes home and meditates too.  And how about normal people, the iPod toters of the world, the songs might be stolen but they’re still promotin, those youngins who look at the VMAs like the party in the hedonist sector of heaven that they’ll never be at, like it’s some fairy tale that they’ll never understand.

And it’s that distance that makes them love it.  When they jam to “Umbrella”, they’re there.

But Casey, you’ve dropped sicker shit.  I’ll go out on a limb and say:

MORE than half the people on this board, if forced at GUnit-point, have the ability to turn out a MONSTER single of the year.

And you should be aware that I ramble cuz I like the sound of the keyboard.

And lastly, for POP’s sake, stay in the underground.

PIECE.

it was her opportunity to start to try and show the world that perhaps the media was playing up all of her disasters and that she wasnt as big a train wreck as is so commonly believed.  Unfortunately all this performance served was to prove everyone right.......

she needs to vacate that public eye for a few years, get her shit together, actually be present in her children’s lives and then maybe just maybe she may be able to resurrect her career.

As it stands now she is on the fast track to an early grave… god help her

^ This.

She needs to realise her career is, effectively, over. Two children, enough personal problems that makes the lives of Hurricane Katrina victims look desirable and a irreversible image spells utter doom and failure.

QUOTE OF THE YEAR!!!! LOLOLOLOLOL

I agree with everything mentioned, I think that the VMA’s and MTV in general is a popularity contest, like a Prom where only the popular kids get to dance and everyone else gets to sit in the audience and wish and hope that one of the popular kids will hook them up with a chance to shine but they are to self absorbed with being in the moment and too self absorbed with their own ego i.e. Kanye.  I just hope that one day if I hit the lottery lol and make milllllions of dollars I will use it to create my own media empire that will not focus on 9 - 12 artists all the time and give equal play to equal players.  You know?  Oh well.

Rad, I wanna be on Casey’s label.  Nic, you nailed it about Britney.  Brit, don’t joke about Katrina.  Ever.  You weren’t there.  I’ve seen a lot of people making Katrina jokes since it happened and it’s proof that the world is filled with shallow, shortsighted, heartless people.  Sorry man, you struck a nerve.  But this doesn’t mean I won’t listen to what you say in the future.

For what it is worth, people I have known for five or more years, who lived in New Orleans, were effected. People I consider friends; some of whom I’ve talked to since then...some I have not. So yes, whilst I wasn’t there, I was personally effected by it.

Nevertheless, I had no intent whatsoever to strike anyones nerve, or offend anyone, and for that I apologise. Sorry mate.

This is a testament to what fame will get you in the ol’ US of A.  You’d better have your faculties about you when you go live or the whirlwind of attention and subsequent loss thereof might destroy you.  My condolences.

Werd, I feel pity...sometimes.  I mean, look at MJ.  Damn if [most of] that music isn’t hot.  The work is gonna live on where he left off; in cases like his, it’s almost like his soul transfered from his body to the work.  Or, alternately, it’s as if the work and the man being one is necessary for both to exist without tension, a parallel of the soul and man, otherwise we sit around going, “Yeah, this track rox but he did that one unmentionable thing,” just as we say, “He looks like a zombie but damn if his tracks don’t rock.  WTF.” Blah blah, ok, I’m done.

I am a huge MJ fan / supporter as most of you know… He is a talent, and enigma, and an oddotity to the human race.  He is so “odd” and different, i mean look at him back in the day, he didnt have a “stylist” and or “personal assistant” back in those days, I am sure almost all of his antics and what not were from his own brain.  All of these other people in the media these days have people to think this stuff up… MJ is just amazing and I can not wait until his new album.

MJ is just amazing and I can not wait until his new album.

This is pretty much explicitly for Casey, but if anyone else wants to chime in, I’d be interested to hear.

I’m an MJ fan myself, but I stay at the music level.  The production on “Dangerous” still blows my mind to this day; go listen to “In The Closet” really loud on a fantastic sound system.  Or “She’s Got the Look”, “Jam”, etc.  He’s got loads of sick tracks.  But the thing is, he’s crazy.  But so’s Prince and no one gives him shit.  I got mad love for Prince, but the point is, he ain’t the only musician out there “off his rocker”.  It so common for people to make a scapegoat out of anything that isn’t remotely like them.  I’m still on the fence about the kid thing, but I’m glad MJ’s refused to acknowledge the probable thousands of people who in the span of his life have told him that he might do well to try and “fit in.”

I think if you assume MJ did shit with a kid, you’re judging out of bounds.  As Chappelle put it, “Only three people know what happened in that room: the kid, Michael, and God...and we judge him cuz he looks like a freak.” He does look a little strange now but that’s not what people were sayin in the 80s when every sister and brother wanted to fuck him...simultaneously.  :-p Oh the androgyny.

However, I...really didn’t like the album “Invincible.” The song “Invincible”, however, is pretty dope, probably my fav on that.  “Rock My World” ain’t bad and kind of throws back to earlier MJ.  But my beef was with the number of songs on that album where he’s simply bitching at his oppressors.  Meanwhile, Prince wants to throw a love party with lots of funky chocolate and silk and perfume.  The real ironic shit is that those two have MASSIVE fan bases, especially outside of the US.  Asia practically worships MJ.

I dunno.  It’s all up in the air.  At the end of the day, if he’s layin down a madskillz track, that’s the clincher.

But in response to your video, you highlighted the best thing about MJ; he can certainly dance.  Thems some madskillz (that evil robot shit around 16 seconds in his ill...sorry, I’m a breaking/choreography/dance nut.)

If you’ve ever seen Interstella 5555, you know how the evil dude is taking musical prodigies from alien worlds, brainwashing them, and marketing them on earth, and one of them looks like a young Mozart?  Mike’s one of those artists.  He’s...just not from around here.

He (MJ) is a performer at the start of the day and at the end.  He is a true performer.  If a man can get on top of the roof of his own car and dance at his own trial… i mean, would any other artist out there do that?!  I do not think so.  I liked invincible (album and track) there are several tracks on that album i really like and several i really hate… Heartbreaker is awesome, Invincible, Ubreakable, 2000 Watts, Break of Dawn.  Those are my faves, everything else is.. crap. lol IMO though.  Dangerous is still my favorite album, I listen to it every couple of months just to try to make a beat like any one of those tracks, they are all so “HYPED” specially JAM and In the closet and Dangerous.  Smooth Criminal is my second fave, so many great songs on that disc.  I liked History Disc 2, Scream and a few others on that album.  Scream is prolly my favorite MJ track in the last 10 years.  Anyways, I am routing for him to make his glorious comeback, I am thinking that this time next year, he opens the VMA’s and does something truly jaw dropping and amazing… he will be back on top.  If he comes out with another “You Rock My World” like track, sorry its dunzo.

Cheers! smile 674397889_l.jpg Me and My mom.... Notice my Tee. smile

My reply has absolutely nothing to do with with Britney.

Inspired by comments from 3pm (Casey) and Zenocyte I pulled out Michael Jackson’s “Invincible” from the shelf. Must admit, more or less 6 years on from its release—funny how time flies when you’re having fun—there’s some truly good songs on there. Casey nailed most of those already, but I’ll give some extra props to “Heaven Can Wait”, “Butterflies” and “You Are My Life”—all of those aforementioned not-so-sickly-sweet downtempo tunes sound timeless, and could have been included on the Dangerous or Bad albums. On a sidenote, the “Bad"-era unreleased “Streetwalker” by MJ rules! Still puzzled why it wasn’t included on “Bad”.

Casey, you got it: the track I like is not “Invincible”, it’s “Unbreakable”.  MAD beat, hooky chorus, and an unreleased Biggie rap to boot.  Besides, that track is LOUD.

Well i guess we are talking about both an event and a person and having an idea about how he is going to comeback… so in turn that would make us Flipping Geniuses.  Just saying.  smile
