iMacs dumped the white and went stainless steel, got a lot faster, and the prices dropped.
New Apple Keyboard with a super-slim profile, like the Logitech DiNovo Edge. Not sure how I’ll feel about this. I’m typing on a full size version right now, and I like it much better than my MacBook’s built-in one (which this version is supposedly modeled after).
iLife finally gets an update… iPhoto is getting a companion called Events, a more powerful app that makes managing photos by the thousands a bit easier. I can attest to this being a really good idea. I’ve struggled between the simplicity of iPhoto with the pro workflow of Adobe Lightroom. Aperture’s codebase just sucks.
Looks like .Mac is finally getting an upgrade… we’ll see how much. It’s desperately needed.
Hmm, maybe not so much.
iMovie just got a huge upgrade. One of the Apple engineers finally discovered that between iMovie and Final Cut Pro, it’s impossible to create a video in 30 minutes (big duh), so he created an app that could. Sweet. I might finally start getting excited about video production.
There’s the .Mac upgrade… storage goes from 1GB to 10GB. About damn time. Your own web hosting is still far cheaper though.
Here comes iWork. They’d better expand this with a few more apps or it’ll get crushed by Office 2008.
They did. We get Numbers, a spreadsheet app that looks to be Excel Lite, more geared towards workflow. Lots of templates, and the ability to embed multiple objects and layouts on the same page. Looks like a practical app for the every day person, and not designed to match Excel’s programming ability.
I’ll use it, but this would have been a perfect chance to integrate a real tax return/small business feature into a main spreadsheet app. Missed opportunity, unfortunate for the rest of us.
Looks like that’s it for announcements today. They’re doing a Q&A now. On the whole a very consumer-oriented product announcement: iMac, iLife, iWork and .Mac… nothing from the pro lines. That’s a drag. We’ve been waiting for Logic 8 quite a while now.
Still… can’t wait to get my hands on one of those iMacs. Sexay.
