Hello all,

Here’s my second DJ set - a mix of breaks, house and trance from the past seven years - mixed and recorded on the fly this Tuesday afternoon. I’ve kept away from dropping in extra percussion, samples, loops, etc, and instead this time chose to focus on mixing between tracks.

Zenocyte - Shatterstorm Mix

Here’s one of my earlier sets, but it has some nice and funkified transitions. Harder and funkier than the other one posted here, and also slightly dated. I think you’ll especially like the end section. For the record, I’m not really proud of my Chems into LPG transition, you’ll see what i was going for, but, at least to me, it’s still a bit jarring (but the others is decent, tho, I to the MHO.) And, in retrospect, I would’ve shortened Ride a bit. But this project was more to catalog my vinyl (I didn’t have decks at home) in a vaguely coherent set. However! It’s still sick wit it, you know how we do, so bump that, son. Or lady lady.

This is a track I did back in like… 2005. I was going through my old computer and happened to run across this song. This was made when I was first starting to understand how to use music programs. I didn’t write any of the music (which I know you’ll all notice cause Im sure you’ve listened to these songs a billion times and know them like the back of your hand) just mixed it together. Hope you guys think it’s as interesting as I think. And if you don’t like it. Then whatever! Ha!

Zenocyte - Deepbreak Mix

So...I made a set. For the expansion of the mind. A very personal one, one featuring some would say my preferred genre of electronic music: the often overlooked Deep Breaks. This set features some of my favorite songs of ALL TIME so you may have heard them before and I’ll guess that the ones you might have heard would be the proper classics known as:

Gentle Rain
All Those Things
Superstring (supa classic, remember the first track of the first Northern Exposure? We’re talkin like ‘95. ManaString is my own doing.)
Sugar DJ

If you haven’t, well, then you’re in for a treat. Again, this is my very personalized reaction to a few different trends and stereotypes currently espoused by the electronic “scene”:

1. Right now, loud, annoying, flat (as in, not lush, no verb, delay, just straight synths everywhere, no feeling of depth), and slutty is popular, to an unprecedented level.

2. Breaks are dead. Completely.

3. Trance sux.

Now, regarding 1, I’m not against filthy nasty electrohouse (or evil DnB or cerebral techno or anything else for that matter), it’s just that I very rarely hear that one breaks set that gives me shivers (occasionally Way Out West sets have gotten close.)

Which led to this. Think of it like my installment in the “Back to Mine” series; if you came and chilled with me, which I think would be rather good times, this is what you might hear in the background. Only now when you listen, we won’t be conversating on top of the music. So turn it up, nice and BEEFY LOUD, and sit back, relax and max it to the sound, my cyberspatial friends. Yes, there is a 6 and a half minute intro and it’s there for meditative purposes, really makes that first beat drop home (when I first heard that unique Chable track, I knew I had to use it sometime.) I posted this on my site about a month ago but it can’t hurt to share it with a few people who might not’ve come across it. It’s also worth noting that Laurent aka Airwave is in charge of Bonzai, and responsible for getting DPP’s latest album signed.

As the title implies, it’s been about five months since my last mix and what better way to snap out of a funk than to drop what’s probably my favorite collection of tracks since X:Coast. At 6 in the morning with extension cables in tow, I hauled all my gear down to the dock by the lake behind the house, and recorded this all as the sun came up. The neighbors were not pleased, but Tiesto’s been looking for the bloody sunrise for nearly ten years, it’s high time someone help him find it.
